Terms of Service

Last updated · Version 1.0

In short

You must be 18 or older. Units 1 to 20 are free. Auto-renewing plans renew every month or year until you cancel; cancel anytime in Your plan and keep access to the end of what you paid for. A one-time (pay once) payment covers one period, never renews and isn’t refundable.

The course is for your own learning: please don’t share accounts or copy the content. GoHausa teaches language; it isn’t an interpretation service.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Xernu LTD (RC 9404266), which runs GoHausa (“we”, “us”). By creating an account you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy and Refund & Cancellation Policy, which form part of this agreement.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer, including under Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018.

2. Your account

  • You must be 18 or older to create an account.
  • An account is for one person. Keep your password safe and tell us at once at contact@gohausa.com if you think someone else has used your account.
  • Give a real email address you control; we use it for account emails.
  • You can stop using GoHausa and ask us to delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy).

3. What’s free

Units 1 to 20 are free for everyone: no card, no time limit. A paid plan opens the rest of the course. Your progress carries over when you subscribe, and stays if you stop.

4. Plans, prices and payment

  • We offer a monthly and a yearly plan. The yearly plan costs less than twelve monthly payments; the dialog where you choose a plan shows the exact saving (at launch, about 10%).
  • Prices are shown before you pay: in naira (₦) in Nigeria and in US dollars elsewhere. The price shown is what we charge. Your bank may add its own fee, for example for paying in another currency.
  • Payments are taken by Flutterwave on its own secure page, by card, bank transfer or the other methods it offers you. Flutterwave’s terms also apply to the payment.
  • In naira you can also pay once for 1 month or 12 months, at the same prices, by card, bank transfer, USSD, OPay or the other methods Flutterwave offers you. A one-time payment opens the course for that period and does not renew; we email you before it ends. If you pay again before it ends, the new period starts when the current one ends. One-time payments are not refundable (see the Refund Policy). The founding offer applies only to auto-renewing plans.
  • Your plan starts as soon as the payment is confirmed.

5. Automatic renewal

Auto-renewing plans renew automatically: monthly plans every month and yearly plans every year, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. One-time (pay once) payments never renew. Each renewal is charged to the payment method you used, at the start of the new period. Before you pay, the plans dialog says how much the plan renews at and how often.

If we ever change the price of your plan, we’ll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies, so you can cancel first if you wish.

If a renewal payment fails, we’ll email you. Your paid access may pause until a payment goes through.

6. Cancelling and switching

  • Cancel anytime in Your plan. Cancelling stops future payments; you keep full access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • You can switch between monthly and yearly in Your plan. The switch starts when your current period ends.
  • A pay-once period has nothing to cancel: it simply ends. You can move to an auto-renewing plan at any time; it starts, and is first charged, on the day you set it up.
  • To pay with a different card, cancel and choose a plan again with the new card once the current period ends.
  • Refunds are covered by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

7. The founding offer

The first 1,000 people who joined the GoHausa waitlist get 40% off their first three months on the monthly plan.

  • “First 1,000” means the first 1,000 real sign-ups, in the order they joined. The “spots taken” counter on the waitlist page is a display figure and doesn’t affect who qualifies.
  • To claim it, create your GoHausa account with the same email you used on the waitlist and confirm it. The discount then appears in your price automatically.
  • It can be used once per waitlist sign-up and one account. It can’t be transferred, exchanged for cash, or combined with another offer.
  • After your three discounted months the founding plan ends and nothing more is charged automatically. We’ll remind you before then, and you can carry on at the full monthly price with one click. If you do nothing, your access ends with the last paid month.
  • If we set a last date for claiming the offer, we’ll show it here and email the people who qualify.

8. Fair use

GoHausa is for your own learning. Please don’t:

  • share your account, or sell or give away access to it;
  • copy, download in bulk, scrape, record or republish lessons, audio, text or exercises, or use them to train software;
  • resell, rent or offer GoHausa’s content as part of another product or class;
  • get around the paywall, rate limits or security, or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows;
  • use automated tools to access GoHausa, or disrupt it for others;
  • break the law, or harm other people, through GoHausa.

9. Our content, and your licence to use it

The GoHausa course, built on the GOMA Hausa course (its lessons, sentences, translations, exercises, stories, illustrations and design), is protected by copyright. It is owned by GoHausa’s owner or licensed to us. © All rights reserved.

While you have an account, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the content in the app for your own learning. That licence ends when your account closes, or for paid content when your paid access ends.

10. The computer voice

Some lesson audio is spoken by a computer voice and is labelled “computer voice”. It is our own voice model, made by fine-tuning the open VITS Open Bible Hausa model on the WAXAL Hausa speech data. Both are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, and so is our model. See Attributions for credits and links. A computer voice can mispronounce words or get tones wrong; native recordings replace it over time.

11. Language learning, not interpretation

GoHausa teaches Hausa. It is not a translation or interpretation service, and its translations are teaching aids. Don’t rely on it where a mistake could cause harm, such as medical, legal, financial, safety or religious matters. This also applies to any lessons for particular jobs or professions: they teach useful language, not professional practice. In those situations, use a qualified interpreter.

12. Changes to GoHausa, and availability

We keep improving the course, so lessons, exercises and features change over time. We won’t take away what a paid plan includes in a way that leaves you worse off during a period you’ve paid for. We aim to keep GoHausa available but can’t promise it will never be interrupted, for example for maintenance or problems outside our control.

13. Our responsibility to you

We provide GoHausa with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit, and your rights as a consumer stay in place.

Otherwise we aren’t responsible for losses that weren’t reasonably foreseeable, or for business losses (GoHausa is for personal use). Our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it arose.

14. Suspending or closing accounts

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, for example by sharing it or copying content. Where we reasonably can, we’ll warn you first and give you a chance to put things right. If we close your account without you being at fault, we’ll refund the unused part of any period you’ve paid for.

15. Disputes and governing law

If something goes wrong, please contact us first at contact@gohausa.com; most things can be sorted out quickly. You can also complain to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes go to the Nigerian courts. If you live in the UK or EU, you also keep the protection of your own country’s mandatory consumer laws and can bring a claim there.

16. Changes to these terms

We update the date and version at the top whenever these terms change. For a change that matters, we’ll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it applies and ask you to accept the new terms. If you don’t agree, you can cancel before then.
